the modern scandinavian home
The Golden Age of Scandinavian design was in the 1930s - 1950s where many of the reference points for this movement and aesthetic are rooted. The 'Egg Chair, the 'Wishbone Chair' are all In the 1990s there was an increasing interest in the mid-century modern design, that started in Japan, where collectors championed the use of organic materials - especially in the work of Finn Juhl - and this interest spread around the world.
The success of Copenhagen restaurant NOMA, and surge in interest in nordic cuisine, was a catalyst for change and new opportunities for emerging designers like Norman Architects to create new spaces in a new era of Nordic design. A 2012 exhibition at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art called New Nordic Architecture showcased this link between heritage and future and so started the new wave of Scandiannvian design.
Brands like Muuto - a new perspective in Finnish and the 'New Danish Modern' series by Normann Copenhagen are breathing new life into rewriting a new chapter of design for the future.
