About SCP

SCP was founded in 1985 as a manufacturer and retailer of modern furniture. Inspired by the designs of the Modern Movement, SCP decided to start producing new designs in the same spirit. Still SCP remains true to its founding idea, to make design products that are functional, beautiful and made to last.

The company has collaborated with numerous esteemed designers, including Matthew Hilton, Jasper Morrison, and Philippe Malouin, producing pieces that blend functionality with aesthetic appeal.

Balzac chair

In 1991, a few years after launching their early collections, which were predominantly pieces made from metal or wood, SCP manufactured their first ever upholstery design, the Balzac armchair by Matthew Hilton. Working with a traditional upholstery maker in Norfolk, the design took over two years to develop, but Hilton’s talent for modernising traditional typologies ensured that the Balzac armchair and accompanying ottoman were a commercial success.

Since their very first upholstery design in 1991, they have been refining their manufacturing skills, improving the materials that go into the pieces and working ever closer with our industry leading designers. The result is a expceptional quality of product, a product that they offer a lifetime guarantee on.

Sustainability is a core focus for SCP. In 2003, the company integrated its upholstery manufacturing into its operations in Norfolk, ensuring high-quality, locally made products. By 2024, SCP had eliminated polyurethane foam from its upholstered furniture, opting for natural materials to enhance comfort and environmental responsibility.
