Iconic design worth investing in
Investing in sustainable, buy-once, keep forever furniture for your home is always going to be a great investment. As well as investing in the work of renowned creative geniuses you'll make memories for many years to come.
We’re Helen & Matt Cimmermann, we founded Cimmermann in 2004 because we both believe passionately in buying investment, iconic furniture that’s made to last.
Whether you love modernism, mid-century, Danish or the classic Eames look, we wanted to share our favourite iconic pieces of furniture that will stand out in your home.
Furniture to buy once, keep forever
We’re an independent, family run studio, so when you shop with us you get a bespoke, fully personal service, knowledge that you’re buying from people who take great design and thoughtful living seriously.
Here are some of the best investments for furniture in your home we think you can make:
Vitra DSR “Eiffel Chair”
Vitra’s partnership with Charles and Ray Eames started back in 1957.
Today, Vitra fully embraces the influential duo’s ethos in their iconic brand. The Vitra DSR Eames Plastic Chair was the first industrially manufactured plastic chair and was designed in partnership with Eero Saarinen, who he was working with when he met Ray.
Since then, the chair has been reinvented to be produced sustainably, as part of Vitra’s commitment to be carbon positive by 2030. It is now 100% recyclable.
We love mixing these chairs up with an old table or desk.
L. Ercolani Studio Couch
Designed by Lucian Ercolani in 1956 for the British brand he founded, Ercol, the studio couch is a standout investment piece. It’s also now available in the new, bold Modern Tones series by Christian Møller Andersen which comes in a rich and tactile warmth.
The day bed / sofa is incredibly satisfying to feel and touch and would be the absolute focal point of anywhere it’s placed - a living area, study or bedroom. It’s soothing and tactile upholstery works well with the carved wood; Craftsmanship and design at its very best.
Carl Hansen+Søn Wishbone Chair
Such a classic and elegant design, with its recognisable, wishbone-shaped back, it’s hard to believe it looks and feels as modern today as when it was designed by Hans Wagner back in 1949.
Originally a cabinet maker, Wagner wanted to offer a lighter chair than the heavier ones popular at the time. He was in fact inspired by the ‘Ming’ Chinese thrones, which was minimalist, featured a wide seat and high back.
Helen says: "The Wishbone is a classic that our clients come back to time and time again when they want a minimalist and soft Scandinavian look."
Kartell Masters Chair
Designed by Philippe Starck as a playful nod and a homage to three iconic chairs - the Ant Chair by Denmark’s Arne Jacobsen, the Tulip Armchair by Eero Saarinen and the DSR or Eiffel Tower Chair by Charles and Ray Eames (above).
The Masters can be stacked and comes in a range of colours.
Philippe Starck says: "We weren’t born just today. there have been masters before us. The masters chair brings to mind the lines of three great masters and three great masterpieces. putting them all together they create a new product, a new project, a reflection on a new society. ‘masters’ is a project in collaboration with Eugeni Quitlet.’
Knoll Saarinen The Tulip Dining Table
The Tulip Table is still contemporary and current. Eero Saarinen was inspired working with Charles Eames and found inspiration from him in creating organic and fluid furniture.
His vision was to free the underneath of the table from the “sea of legs” that created visual clutter.Eero - translating into Eric - Saarinen had a reasonably short life but in that time created an incredible body of work. The Son of a Finnish architect (known for his work creating Helsinki’s Station), and a sculptor mother, Eero grew up in the US.
The edge of the table is bevelled and it comes with many marble finishes that is coated for durability. The Knoll logo is located on the underside of the base.
Vitra Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman
“The Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman is the ultimate piece of iconic furniture to invest in.It’s so soft and the absolute best place to sit and read and look out of the window.
We love how it looks in the Eames House in California. It is ideal for a living space, study, or anywhere; utterly timeless.
We sell the licensed original by The Eames Estate allow to be produced in the UK, by Vitra. If you want to own a benchmark of 20th century design, this is the one to buy.”
