Saarinen tulip collection

A Sculptural Icon of Modern Design

Eero Saarinen’s Pedestal Collection for Knoll is a defining moment in modern furniture design. Introduced in the late 1950s, the collection was Saarinen’s elegant solution to what he called the “slum of legs” found beneath traditional tables and chairs. By replacing multiple legs with a single, graceful pedestal, he created a family of dining, side, and coffee tables as well as arm and side chairs that are as functional as they are sculptural. With its fluid lines and minimalist silhouette, the Pedestal Collection brings a timeless modernist aesthetic to any space, continuing to inspire over six decades after its debut.
Originally called the 'Pedestal Collection' for its distinctive single-leg base, the design later became affectionately known as the “Tulip” due to its graceful, stem-like silhouette.
