The Lamino Chair is the result of Yngve Ekström’s lifelong pursuit of simplicity, comfort, and the perfect sitting curve. Rather than a single moment of inspiration, the design evolved over many years, shaped by a series of earlier and later chair designs through which Ekström continually refined form and function until Lamino reached its final expression.
In 1956, Yngve and Jerker Ekström unveiled the chair at a furniture fair, presenting a piece that combined meticulous craftsmanship with innovative engineering that allowed for efficient production. Shown in natural saddle leather, the Lamino immediately captured attention, earning widespread acclaim and an influx of orders.
Ekström described his approach succinctly: “I designed Lamino with the human body as a starting point, making it as pleasant to look at as to sit in.”
Today, the Lamino Chair can be found in hundreds of thousands of homes worldwide and remains Swedese’s most recognisable easy chair. Its enduring appeal has been widely celebrated, including being named Furniture of the Century by the Swedish magazine Sköna hem.

about swedese
Swedese is a Swedish furniture brand founded in 1945 by designers Yngve Ekström, his brother Jerker, and Bertil Sjöqvist in the town of Vaggeryd, Småland. From its beginnings in the heart of Scandinavian Modernism, the company has stayed true to its roots combining craftsmanship, timeless design, and a human-centred approach to furniture.
Yngve Ekström, a pivotal figure in mid-century design, played a central role in shaping Swedese’s direction and remains a lasting influence on the brand’s philosophy. Swedese still operates in the same region today, honouring Ekström’s legacy while continuing to innovate and produce enduring pieces that bring simplicity, comfort and beauty to everyday living.
