At home with Nanna Flachs: timeless design for family living

A family home in Dragør, Copenhagen, where timeless design, personal expression and everyday life come together.

A home is rarely finished. It evolves with the people who live in it, adapting to changing needs, different tastes and the everyday moments that make it personal.

For fashion stylist Nanna Flachs and her family, their home in Dragør, Copenhagen, is a relaxed space created to welcome family and friends. It brings together considered design and the practicalities of everyday family life, with furniture that has grown and changed alongside them.

A table at the heart of family life

One of the central pieces in Nanna's home is the CH338 Table by Hans J. Wegner, which she and her husband bought eleven years ago, when their son was born.

At the time, the family lived in a smaller home and were drawn to the table's adjustable design. Without the additional extension leaf, it offered an intimate setting for a family of three. As their family and their needs have changed, so too has the way they use it. An additional leaf has since become a permanent feature, and they are now considering adding another.

Today, the table accommodates much more than mealtimes. It is a place for homework, drawing, puzzles and all the activities that naturally gather around a family dining table.

It is a lovely example of furniture adapting to the way we live, rather than the other way around.

A chair for everyone

Around the dining table, Nanna and her husband have brought together a mixture of chairs, each reflecting their individual preferences.

Nanna would happily have the PK1 Chair around the entire table, while her husband's preference for the Wishbone Chair has resulted in a combination of the two.

Rather than insisting on one particular choice, they have embraced the mix, enjoying the character that comes from everyone having their own chair.

It is a small detail, but one that says something about the way a home comes together. Personal taste doesn't always have to be uniform, and sometimes the most interesting interiors are those that reflect the different people who share them.

The beauty of natural materials

When choosing materials, functionality is important to Nanna. She particularly appreciates the way wood and leather develop a patina over time, gaining character through use.

Her approach to interiors isn't defined by a particular designer or period. Instead, she is drawn to beautiful pieces through their form, material and colour.

It's an approach that allows different designs and influences to sit comfortably together, creating a home that feels personal rather than overly coordinated.

Finding time in the garden

Beyond the quieter moments spent at the dining table, Nanna's favourite place at home is the garden.

On the terrace, a Børge Mogensen bench and table provide a place to work outdoors throughout spring, summer and autumn. It becomes an outdoor office, offering a different setting as the seasons change.

Nanna enjoys following the natural rhythm of the garden, from new growth and flowering through to decay and rest, before the cycle begins again.

It's a simple pleasure, and a reminder of how the spaces we enjoy most are often those that allow us to slow down and appreciate the everyday.

A home that reflects the people who live in it

What makes Nanna Flachs's home interesting is not a particular style or a collection of matching furniture, but the way everything comes together through use, personal preference and changing family life.

The CH338 dining table has adapted as her family has grown, the chairs reflect two different tastes, and natural materials are appreciated for the character they develop over time.

Rather than following a particular design period or trying to create a finished look, Nanna's approach is about choosing pieces she finds beautiful and that work for the way her family lives.

At Cimmermann, we believe this is what makes timeless design so appealing. The best pieces are not simply those that look good when they are new, but those that become part of everyday life, adapting to our homes and gathering memories along the way.
