Artek marked its 90th anniversary a couple of months ago by reintroducing some of its most treasured furniture pieces, designs that are as beautiful as they are functional.
This curated selection honours Alvar Aalto, Artek’s co-founder and one of Finland’s most influential designers and architects. Many of Aalto’s iconic designs, long out of standard production, return as limited anniversary editions or permanent additions to the collection.

The pieces highlight Aalto’s signature approach: human-centric design crafted from natural materials. Among the most celebrated is the X-leg, featured in the limited edition Stool X602. Combining the fan-shaped leg with a curly birch marquetry seat, this piece adds a touch of elegance to any interior. The X-leg, once described by New York’s Museum of Modern Art as “one of the most refined of all Aalto’s creations,” evolves from the renowned L-leg, developed with master carpenter Otto Korhonen and the foundation for countless Artek classics.

The L-leg also appears in the Cabinet 250, an elegant storage solution designed by Alvar and co-founder Aino Aalto during their prolific 1930s period. True to the anniversary theme of celebration, this cabinet is ideal for storing tableware, refreshments, or anything needed for festive gatherings. This cabinet is definitely on our wishlist for our home!

Artek’s Screen 100, an enduring symbol of Aalto’s organic, flowing forms, is now available in a variety of heights to suit modern living spaces. Evocative of Aalto’s architectural masterpieces from the undulating ceiling of Viipuri Library to the rolling hills and lakes of the Finnish landscape the screen brings both beauty and versatility to interiors.
This anniversary collection is a testament to Artek’s lasting influence and Alvar Aalto’s vision, offering pieces that are timeless in design and joyful in everyday use.
