Vitra Polder Sofa

In Holland where Hella Jongerius was born “Polder” refers to the artificial land reclaimed from the sea by means of dykes and drainage canals. The body of the Polder Sofa is just as low-lying, just as flat, and has just as much emphasis on the horizontal.

  • Materials:Structural frame: wooden frame. Seat cushions: polyurethane foam with interactive pocket spring core, chamber cushions and polyester fleece. Back cushions: polyurethane foam with polyester fleece and chamber cushions. Armrest cushion: detached bolster, freely positionable, sand-weighted. Cover: coordinated combinations of various colours and fabric types. Buttons come in a choice of Light or Dark.

Hella Jongerius is a renowned Dutch industrial designer known for her inventive approach to products. She has been the Art Director for colours and materials at Vitra for many years and developed the Vitra Colour & Material Library – a system that enables the versatile combination of different materials and colours throughout the extensive Vitra product collection. Her bold and colourful furniture designs are truly unique. Some of her works have been shown at museums and galleries such as Design Museum (London), Galerie kreo (Paris) and the Moss Gallery (New York).
