The chairs and ottomans in the Aluminium Group are the most famous creations by Charles and Ray Eames. Designed in 1958 they rate amongst the great achievements in the design history of the 20th century.
Charles & Ray Eames are one of modern design's most recognisable partnerships. Born in the early part of the 20th Century Charles and Ray Eames married in 1941 and moved to Los Angeles, where together they began experimenting with techniques for the three-dimensional moulding of plywood. The aim was to create comfortable chairs that were affordable.
Playful and fun, the Eames' had a great energy that lives through their iconic products today. "Take your pleasure seriously" was a favourite saying of Charles Eames.
