A remarkable expression of modern design, the Knoll Platner Easy Chair & Ottoman combines enveloping comfort with the sculptural elegance of one of the twentieth century’s most distinctive furniture collections.
Designed by Warren Platner in 1962, this celebrated pairing transforms industrial steel wire into an intricate architectural form, creating a striking balance between visual lightness and luxurious comfort.
The chair’s graceful frame is constructed from individually welded vertical steel rods, intersected by circular horizontal and edge-framing elements. Available in polished nickel or plated 18k gold, the intricate metalwork creates a distinctive play of light and shadow, giving the design an almost jewellery-like quality. Beneath the sculptural exterior, a moulded fibreglass shell and generously cushioned upholstery provide a welcoming, supportive seat. The coordinating ottoman completes the composition, inviting a more relaxed seating position while echoing the chair’s elegant circular geometry.
Together, the pieces create a considered balance of form and function, equally suited to a sophisticated living room, a private reading space or an elegant hospitality interior. An authentic, licensed original by Knoll, the Platner Easy Chair & Ottoman preserves Warren Platner’s distinctive design vision. Its exceptional craftsmanship, carefully engineered steel framework and choice of premium upholstery distinguish it as a genuine investment in enduring design heritage.
A selection of fabrics and finishes allows the pairing to be tailored to individual interiors, from understated contemporary schemes to richly layered, luxurious spaces. With its generous proportions and unmistakable silhouette, the Platner Easy Chair & Ottoman makes a confident statement without sacrificing comfort. More than a place to sit, it is a functional sculpture and a lasting design classic - a testament to the enduring appeal of authentic craftsmanship, material innovation and timeless modern elegance.
