Richard Schultz’s work is defined by environment and response. Best known for his outdoor furniture, his designs balance lightness with durability - forms that appear effortless, yet are built to endure.
The shift toward outdoor performance came from a practical need. Florence Knoll, having moved to the Florida coast, returned weathered furniture to the studio -objects unable to withstand salt air and exposure. The problem was clear.
Schultz’s response was the 1966 Leisure Collection. Aluminium frames, resilient materials, and a focus on longevity. Nothing added beyond what the conditions required.
