The House of Finn Juhl Poet Sofa is an iconic piece of Danish modern furniture, celebrated for its soft, organic curves, inviting comfort and distinctive sculptural form.
Designed by Finn Juhl in 1941 for his own home, this compact two-seater sofa reflects the designer’s artistic approach to furniture, drawing inspiration from surrealist art to create a design that feels expressive, intimate and timeless.
First presented at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers’ Guild Exhibition in 1941, the Poet Sofa demonstrates Finn Juhl’s ability to transform everyday furniture into functional works of art. Its gently curving upholstered body and prominent armrests create an embracing silhouette, offering a comfortable seat for two while giving the sofa its unmistakable character. The carefully balanced proportions make it particularly well suited to smaller living rooms, apartments, reading corners and thoughtfully designed interiors.
The sofa’s distinctive appearance is complemented by refined craftsmanship and carefully selected materials. Hand-upholstered in Denmark, the Poet Sofa is available in a choice of premium fabrics and leather, allowing its sculptural form to be expressed through a variety of colours, textures and finishes. Its legs are offered in oak or walnut, providing a subtle contrast to the upholstery and helping the sofa complement both contemporary and classic interiors.
The name “Poet Sofa” became established through its association with the Danish comic strip Poeten og Lillemor, in which a poet relaxes and contemplates life from a similar sofa. This connection adds a charming story to an already distinctive design, reinforcing the sofa’s association with comfort, creativity and quiet moments of reflection.
Whether styled as the focal point of a living room or paired with complementary pieces from the House of Finn Juhl collection, the Poet Sofa brings warmth, personality and authentic Scandinavian design heritage to the home.

Finn Juhl (1912-1989) was the first Danish furniture designer to be recognized internationally. He studied architecture at the Royal Academy in Copenhagen with Danish architect Vilhelm Lauritzen, but as a furniture designer he was self-taught, a fact he always emphasized.
Juhl began designing furniture in the late 1930s, in the beginning mostly pieces intended for himself, but after setting up his own office in 1945 he soon became known for his unusual, expressive and sculptural pieces.
One of Finn Juhl's most well-known pieces is the Chieftains Chair. Designed in 1949, it is a fine example of Juhl's great idea of separating the sculpturally shaped seat and back from the wooden frame.
