Make room for exceptional design with the Fritz Hansen Superellipse B613 Table, a contemporary Danish dining table defined by its distinctive geometry and enduring appeal.
Designed by Piet Hein and Bruno Mathsson, with Arne Jacobsen contributing to the table series, the B613 combines an expressive silhouette with generous proportions, making it an elegant choice for modern dining spaces.
The Superellipse has an unusual story behind its graceful curves. In the 1950s, Piet Hein was challenged to find a solution to traffic congestion at Sergels Torg, a busy square in Stockholm. His answer was a superelliptical roundabout: a shape that offered a practical alternative to conventional road layouts while maintaining a pleasing visual balance. This marriage of mathematics, engineering and aesthetics later inspired the Superellipse table. Developed for the home in collaboration with Bruno Mathsson and Arne Jacobsen, the design demonstrates how a solution to an urban planning problem could evolve into a lasting icon of modern furniture.
At 180cm long and 120cm wide, the Fritz Hansen Superellipse B613 provides ample space for up to eight people. Its elongated tabletop offers room for shared meals, lively dinner parties and everyday family life, while the softly curved corners create a welcoming alternative to a conventional rectangular dining table. The Superellipse shape is both distinctive and versatile. Its balanced outline works beautifully in open-plan living spaces, spacious kitchens and formal dining rooms, bringing architectural character without unnecessary ornamentation. The absence of sharp corners also helps create a natural flow around the table.
The Fritz Hansen Superellipse B613 is more than a place to gather; it is an example of how intelligent design can remain relevant across generations. Its fascinating origins, generous seating capacity and carefully judged proportions make it a natural centrepiece for homes that value both function and aesthetics. Piet Hein was neither an architect nor a furniture designer - but a philosopher, poet and mathematician. He created the Superellipse as a new oval shape for the Sergel's Square in Stockholm. In cooperation with the Swedish designers, Bruno Mathsson and Arne Jacobsen, he later used the shape for the Super Ellipse Table Series which Fritz Hansen put in production in 1968.
