A defining icon of Danish modernism, the Fritz Hansen PK61 Coffee Table was designed by Poul Kjærholm in 1956.
Defined by its precise geometry, restrained proportions and uncompromising simplicity, it demonstrates how a few carefully considered elements can create a piece of enduring design significance.
At the heart of the PK61 is a square tabletop supported by a beautifully engineered satin-brushed stainless steel base. Every component remains visible, celebrating the relationship between structure, material and form. The result is a design that feels architectural yet understated, bringing clarity and balance to contemporary living spaces.
The tabletop is available in a selection of distinctive materials, including marble, granite, slate and glass. Each offers a different expression of Kjærholm’s design philosophy: natural stone introduces depth, texture and individual character, while glass creates a lighter, more transparent presence. Every stone surface has its own unique markings, ensuring that each table is subtly individual. The stainless steel base is formed from four identical elements joined with visible machine screws, an honest expression of the construction that gives the table its distinctive character. The tabletop rests on the frame through gravity rather than permanent fixing, reflecting Kjærholm’s interest in intelligent engineering and material integrity.
With its compact 80 cm square proportions and low profile, the PK61 is particularly suited to considered living spaces, where its sculptural simplicity complements lounge chairs and sofas without overwhelming the room. Designed to accompany the iconic PK22 Lounge Chair, it works equally well as a standalone centrepiece in a contemporary interior. More than a coffee table, the PK61 is an enduring study in proportion, craftsmanship and restraint. Its timeless form continues to demonstrate the lasting relevance of Kjærholm’s approach to modern furniture design.
Materials: The PK61™ comes with glass, marble or granite tabletops. The base is made of satin-brushed stainless steel. Please note every piece of marble or stone is unique and will differ, this adds to the character of the design.

Poul Kjærholm was a trained carpenter and continued his studies at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts. He had a particular interest in different construction materials; especially steel which he considered a natural material with the same artistic fineness as other natural materials. He was employed at Fritz Hansen for about a year, where he designed a number of note-worthy furniture pieces - "The Kjærholm Collection", developed from 1951 to 1967 these designs have an aura of exclusivity.
