A striking study in geometry, material and proportion, the Fritz Hansen PK58 Dining Table was designed by Poul Kjærholm in 1963.
Combining a generous circular tabletop with a sharply defined cube-shaped base, it brings architectural precision and sculptural simplicity to the contemporary dining space.
Inspired by Kjærholm’s earlier PK54 table, the PK58 explores the relationship between contrasting forms and materials. The smooth, rounded tabletop sits in elegant contrast to the angular base, creating a composition that feels both grounded and visually light. Its understated silhouette allows the table to make a statement through proportion and craftsmanship rather than ornamentation. The white tabletop is moulded from polyester composite with a natural mineral filler, creating a smooth, refined surface with a clean, contemporary appearance. Beneath it, the anodised satin-brushed aluminium base introduces a subtle industrial character, with visible black hexagonal screws revealing the precision of the construction.
Every detail reflects Kjærholm’s distinctive approach to furniture design, in which industrial materials are treated with the same care and artistic sensitivity as traditional natural materials. The result is a table that feels timeless, balancing a strong architectural presence with a restrained, versatile aesthetic.
Measuring 130 cm in diameter, the PK58 offers a generous circular surface for everyday dining and entertaining. Its rounded form encourages conversation, while the sculptural base creates a distinctive focal point without overwhelming the surrounding space. Pair it with the Fritz Hansen PK8 Chair for a considered dining arrangement that celebrates the harmony of form and material.
Part of Fritz Hansen’s celebrated Kjærholm collection, the PK58 remains a compelling example of Danish modernism: precise, purposeful and designed to endure.
Poul Kjærholm was a trained carpenter and continued his studies at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts. He had a particular interest in different construction materials; especially steel which he considered a natural material with the same artistic fineness as other natural materials. He was employed at Fritz Hansen for about a year, where he designed a number of note-worthy furniture pieces - "The Kjærholm Collection", developed from 1951 to 1967 these designs have an aura of exclusivity.
