The PK33™ is less a stool than a quiet act of reduction. In it, Poul Kjærholm pares construction back to its essentials - assembly made visible, materials allowed to speak, structure resolved into a clear and deliberate form.
Three legs, formed in matt chromed spring steel, meet the ground with a kind of inevitability.
There is a familiarity here - echoes of Kjærholm’s wider body of work, but nothing repeated without purpose. Each line is considered, each junction restrained. What remains is an object that feels both resolved and open: precise, but never rigid; minimal, but not austere. A distinct expression, arrived at through careful subtraction rather than addition.
The leather-upholstered cushion creates a smooth, tactile surface that contrasts with the stool’s crisp supporting structure. Secured to a ring-shaped shell of laminated painted wood with straps, the loose cushion gives the design a considered, layered appearance. Beneath it, three matt-chromed spring-steel legs extend from the circular seat, creating a light, architectural silhouette. Black leg feet complete the understated construction.
Poul Kjærholm believed that materials should express their own qualities. The PK33 reflects this philosophy through the contrast between supple upholstery, painted wood and finely finished steel. Rather than relying on decorative details, it achieves its identity through proportion, construction and material balance.

Poul Kjærholm was a trained carpenter and continued his studies at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts. He had a particular interest in different construction materials; especially steel which he considered a natural material with the same artistic fineness as other natural materials. He was employed at Fritz Hansen for about a year, where he designed a number of note-worthy furniture pieces - "The Kjærholm Collection", developed from 1951 to 1967 these designs have an aura of exclusivity.
