The Fritz Hansen PK20 Leather Lounge Chair by Poul Kjærholm brings a sense of calm sophistication to contemporary interiors.
Designed in 1968, this distinctive lounge chair combines a generous leather-upholstered seat and high back with a matching headrest, creating a more enveloping form while retaining the visual lightness of Kjærholm’s celebrated steel construction.
The chair’s defining feature is the contrast between its soft, tailored upholstery and its flexible matt-chromed spring-steel frame. The slender metal structure supports the curved seating form with precision, allowing the leather to remain the focus. Carefully considered proportions give the PK20 a relaxed presence without sacrificing the clarity and restraint associated with Danish modernist design. A high back and integrated leather headrest distinguish this version from the lower-backed wicker PK20. The upholstery is available in a selection of leather types, allowing the chair to complement a range of interior palettes, from understated neutral schemes to richer, more expressive settings.
Designed for moments of relaxation, the PK20 works naturally in a living room, reading area or private study. It can serve as a standalone statement piece or be paired with other Poul Kjærholm designs to create a cohesive, material-led interior. The Fritz Hansen PK20 demonstrates Kjærholm’s distinctive ability to unite comfort with disciplined construction. Its balance of tactile leather, responsive steel and elegant proportions gives this lounge chair an enduring place in contemporary design.
