Bring sculptural simplicity to your living space with the Fritz Hansen MC320 Planner Square Coffee Table.
Designed by American modernist Paul McCobb, this distinctive piece pairs the richness of natural Turkish marble with a precisely crafted black steel frame, creating a considered balance of material, structure and proportion.
Originally conceived in 1952, the Planner Table Series reflects McCobb’s belief that good design should be both practical and visually effortless. The MC320 translates this philosophy into a generous square silhouette, where the substantial marble top contrasts beautifully with the fine lines of the powder-coated steel base. Measuring 80 × 80 cm, the MC320 offers a well-proportioned surface that works naturally at the centre of a living room. Its square format creates a sense of symmetry around sofas and lounge chairs, making it an ideal choice for considered seating arrangements, spacious apartments and contemporary interiors where every piece has a purpose.
Choose glossy charcoal marble for a confident, architectural look or cream marble for a softer, lighter expression. The distinctive veining and natural tonal variations of the stone give each tabletop its own character, while the black steel base adds definition without overwhelming the overall design. Unlike more decorative coffee tables, the MC320 relies on the quality of its materials and the precision of its proportions to make an impression. Its understated profile sits comfortably alongside contemporary furniture, vintage pieces and enduring Scandinavian design classics.
As part of Fritz Hansen’s relaunched Planner collection, the MC320 brings Paul McCobb’s mid-century design sensibility into modern homes. It is a versatile centrepiece for those who appreciate authentic designer furniture, natural materials and design that remains relevant beyond passing trends. Paul McCobb was born in 1917. He moved from Boston to New York to pursue his dream of becoming a designer. When it came to design he was completely self-taught but his profound understanding of perspective paved the way for his emerging career as one of the most important designers of the time. Perspective and scale in particular became a trademark for McCobb, whose tables, shelves and even lamps were the result of meticulous attention to the room the design would inhabit.
