The Fritz Hansen MC310 Planner Rectangular Coffee Table brings a lighter, more understated presence to the living room through its slim rectangular silhouette and carefully balanced materials.
Designed by Paul McCobb, this mid-century modern design combines the expressive surface of natural marble with the crisp geometry of a black powder-coated steel frame.
Originally designed in 1952, the Planner collection is recognised for its thoughtful proportions and an approach to furniture that prioritises clarity over ornament. The MC310 captures this design philosophy in a compact format, offering a refined alternative to larger coffee tables without compromising on character. Measuring 75 × 45 cm, the MC310 is particularly well suited to smaller seating arrangements, apartment living and spaces where a coffee table needs to feel functional without dominating the room. Its elongated rectangular top provides a practical surface for books, a favourite ceramic piece or everyday essentials, while its open steel base maintains a sense of visual lightness.
The marble tabletop is available in glossy cream or charcoal Turkish marble, each bringing a distinct mood to the design. Cream introduces a softer, more understated finish, while charcoal creates a stronger contrast against the black steel structure. Natural veining ensures that every marble surface has its own individual pattern and character.
Part of the Fritz Hansen Planner Table Series, the MC310 reflects Paul McCobb’s enduring interest in proportion, functionality and clean-lined construction. It is a considered choice for those who value natural materials, thoughtful design and furniture that remains relevant over time.
Paul McCobb was born in 1917. He moved from Boston to New York to pursue his dream of becoming a designer. When it came to design he was completely self-taught but his profound understanding of perspective paved the way for his emerging career as one of the most important designers of the time. Perspective and scale in particular became a trademark for McCobb, whose tables, shelves and even lamps were the result of meticulous attention to the room the design would inhabit.
