Seven decades after it was designed, Carl Hansen is re-introducing a modern classic - the Huntsman Chair by Børge Mogensen. It was first presented at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers’ Guild Furniture Exhibition in 1950.
The chair presents a rugged elegance and a stringent, rational design, which lets the natural and enticing materials speak for themselves. Originally created with inspiration from the modern hunting lodge, the tactile materials fit perfectly with a present-day aesthetic, underlining the timeless qualities of Mogensen’s vision. The attention to detail is a testament to Mogensen's training as a cabinet maker. The wooden frame is embraced by an extremely high quality saddle leather held taut by buckles - resulting in a remarkable design. The height of the chair and the flexibility of the buckled saddle leather make the Huntsman Chair ideal as a dining chair as well as a lounge chair. Intricate craftsmanship is visible in every detail, from the angled legs to the mortise and tenon joints

Børge Mogensen was known as ‘the people’s designer’ – partly due to his engaging personality, but also because he always designed quality furniture that was within people’s reach. Børge Mogensen’s (1914-1972) creative process produced long-lasting pieces with humans at the centre. He became a highly influential post-war designer and a leading representative of Danish Modern.
