The &Tradition Little Petra Lounge Chair by Viggo Boesen is an iconic Danish design classic, first introduced in 1938.
Surprisingly compact yet wonderfully inviting, Little Petra has a low, embracing form that makes it particularly easy to place in both large and small spaces.
First presented at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers Guild Exhibition, Little Petra received immediate praise before going on to win awards in New York and Berlin. Designed in the softer, more organic ‘funkis style’ of 1930s Denmark, it offers a warmer and more generous interpretation of modernist design.
Named after Boesen’s mother-in-law, the chair has an unmistakably friendly character that makes you want to sit down and settle in. A great deal of thought has gone into the comfort of Little Petra, from its generous seat and soft upholstery to its low, open shape, which allows for a variety of relaxed seating positions. The natural character of the design is complemented by beautifully crafted oak or walnut legs.
If you’re looking for a compact lounge chair that combines exceptional comfort with iconic Danish design, Little Petra is a beautiful choice for the living room, bedroom or cosy reading space. Read more about Little Petra, its history and design.

Viggo Boesen is a relatively little known architect who contributed to Denmark’s signature design aesthetic in the 1930s. In particular, his work reflected Scandinavian ‘Funkis’ style, a Nordic take on Art Deco. In contrast to mass-produced materials and the less-is-more approach from the Bauhaus school of thought, Boesen brought a soft, warm and almost naive aspect to design, ushering in new forms of upholstered furniture. Only a few of his designs were ever produced, yet Boesen’s original ideas, organic shapes and expressive design lingo were precursors to Denmark’s subsequent stance on modernism in the decades that followed.
