The Safari Chair is a true Design Classic. It was inspired by a British officer's chair which designer Kaare Klint had seen in a travel guide for Africa.
This is Klint's most successful design in partenership with Carl Hansen having sold more than 100,000 pieces since it was first made in 1933. A lightweight chair that has been re-introduced and consists of 11 components, each of which can be simply detached and assembled without the aid of tools. This 'knock down' construction and absence of adhesive means the chair adapts to those seated. The tiltable backrest pivots to suit a range of lounging positions. The designers interest in classical furniture art is visible via the simplified forms and choice of high quality materials, in particular the belted and leg and back straps which holds the form together when assembled.

Recognized as the father of modern Danish design, Kaare Klint (1888-1954) designed icons such as the 1914 Faaborg Chair and the 1933 Safari Chair, as well as the design for the reception room of the Danish Pavilion at the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition.
