During his work in creating the Concert pendat light, Jørn Utzon sought to develop a pendant with a pure and organic design. His idea was to use several different shades, and to strengthen the design further with upward illumination from the lamp.
Jørn Utzon was a Danish architect, by far his most notable design was the Sydney Opera House in Australia. When it was declared a World Heritage Site on 28 June 2007, Utzon became only the second person to have received such recognition for one of his works during his lifetime, after Oscar Niemeyer.
