The Knoll MR Chaise Lounge by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe is an early expression of modernist design, combining a graceful reclining form with the precision of industrial materials.
Designed in 1927, it belongs to the MR Collection, where tubular steel was used to create furniture with a distinctive sense of lightness and movement.
A polished chrome frame supports the reclining seat, with cowhide belting straps beneath the cushions providing the underlying structure. Quilted leather cushions are carefully seamed to follow the chaise’s contours, creating a comfortable place to stretch out while preserving its elegant, architectural profile. The contrast between the reflective steel and rich leather gives the piece a strong visual presence without unnecessary ornament.
Part of Knoll’s Bauhaus Edition, the MR Chaise Lounge is suited to a reading room, living space or considered interior where sculptural furniture can take centre stage. The standard version is shown in black Bellagio leather, with other leather options available to personalise the design.
