Created from an uncompromising pursuit of comfort, the chair embodies a seamless union of function, ergonomics, and organic form. Kukkapuro devoted several years to perfecting Karuselli’s dimensions, famously sculpting the chair around his own body. By wrapping himself in chicken wire and creating a plaster cast in a relaxed lounging posture, he achieved a shape that responds precisely to the human form. Introduced in 1964, the chair’s iconic silhouette quickly gained international recognition.
Celebrated by the design world, Karuselli appeared on the cover of Domus in 1966 at the invitation of Gio Ponti, while Sir Terence Conran famously described it as his favourite chair.
