Designed by Børge Mogensen, the BM1160 Hunting Table is a celebrated example of Mogensen’s honest, functional approach to furniture design.
Created as part of the “Hunting Cabin” theme for the Cabinetmakers’ Guild Exhibition, the table reflects a robust, wood-focused aesthetic inspired by traditional craftsmanship and everyday practicality.
Its slightly narrower tabletop makes the BM1160 particularly well suited to more compact dining spaces, while also encouraging a more intimate and social dining experience. Crafted for regular use, the table features softly rounded corners and edges in solid timber - a thoughtful detail that speaks to Mogensen’s belief in democratic, accessible design made for daily life.
Structural stability is achieved through two diagonal metal brace bars connecting the tabletop and frame, adding both strength and a subtle architectural character. Carefully executed mortise and tenon joints, crafted in contrasting timber, further emphasise the table’s handcrafted quality and enduring attention to detail.
Balancing durability with timeless simplicity, the BM1160 Hunting Table remains an enduring icon of Scandinavian craftsmanship and functional design.
Material: Wooden veneer tabletop with solid wood edges and solid wood table base. Available in either oak or walnut. Crossbars in stainless steel (for the oak version) or brass (for the walnut version). ** Please note, the wedge in the legs always comes in contrasting wood to the chosen finish.
Børge Mogensen was known as ‘the people’s designer’ – partly due to his engaging personality, but also because he always designed quality furniture that was within people’s reach. Børge Mogensen’s (1914-1972) creative process produced long-lasting pieces with humans at the centre. He became a highly influential post-war designer and a leading representative of Danish Modern.
