The Carl Hansen BM0489L Table Bench with its woven paper cord seat is a new interpretation of Børge Mogensen’s minimalist Table Bench BM0488 from 1958 with a cane top.
The design is characterised by its simple and understated elegance, where the solid oak is softened by rounded edges and woven paper cord in a basket weave pattern that make for a thing of beauty. It takes an experienced craftsman six hours to weave the 335 metres of cord to produce a finished bench. The BM0489 bench comes in two sizes, this long version is a versatile piece of furniture that works in a hallway, at the foot of a bed or as a sofa or side table in the living room.

Børge Mogensen was known as ‘the people’s designer’ – partly due to his engaging personality, but also because he always designed quality furniture that was within people’s reach. Børge Mogensen’s (1914-1972) creative process produced long-lasting pieces with humans at the centre. He became a highly influential post-war designer and a leading representative of Danish Modern.
