Butterfly Chair or La Mariposa, was originally designed in Buenos Aires in 1938. It is also known as the BKF chair, named after its three creators Bonet, Kurchan and Ferrari.
Swedish based manufacturers, Cuero Design, with its Argentinian background and 25 years of leather experience, is now producing this foldable chair in a luxurious vegetable tanned Italian Leather. This chair is the ultimate design classic with superior comfort due to the enlarged proportions of this modern day version. A perfect chair for the home, hotel, restaurant or any other commercial project where comfort and style is essential.
One of the designers Jorge Ferrari Hardoy received his degree in architecture from the Universiity of Buenos Aires in 1939. He had resided in Paris the previous year, where he worked with the legendary designer Le Corbusier. One of the most imitated chairs in modern furniture history, the Hardoy Chair was inspired by a wooden folding chair "La Tripolina" dating from 1877 and popular in Europe. The simple leather sling chair design gained unexpected popularity and attention, and, in 1947, Hans Knoll licensed the design, but discontinued production in 1950.
Best known for his iconic chair design, Hardoy remained an active designer, architect, and city planner until his death. An early example features in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. This special edition of the Butterfly chair offered here is made in Sweden to the highest standard by leather specialists.
