The BestLite Brass BL1 is a new addition to the original chrome armed version which was designed in 1930 by the English designer Robert Dudley Best. Within a short period of time the BestLite lamp proved a great success and was proclaimed the first Bauhaus manifestation in the UK by the leading British publication Architects Journal.
During the second World War the BestLite achieved the status of a national icon when Winston Churchill had one standing on his desk. The arm moves up and down allowing for adjustable light.
Colour: All Brass, Brass & Grey, Brass & Black, or Brass & White (The textile cord is white on models with a white shade and black on all other versions.

Robert Dudley Best was a British manufacturer deeply involved with the Modern design movement in and immediately after the interwar years. He took over Best & Lloyd, his father's light industrial engineering works in Birmingham, having previously trained as a metal designer at art school in Düsseldorf. Gubi now produce the iconic Bestlite range and still look as stylish today as they did when they were first designed.
